Today is this amazing woman’s birthday, she would have been 90! In my life, (albeit only 30 years), I have come across a LOT of amazing women who have helped shape me into who I am. When I look at this photo I see a reflection, but this “Nana” was only sent to me 8 years ago.
This woman was the first person I met that was a true artist. She sold her watercolour paintings all over the world, but she was a woman of many, many talents. I remember when I told her I started to do macrame and her response was “Oh ya, I did macrame for a bit in the 80’s, just to know I could do it.” ๐
She was the one person in my life who showed me that I could do it too. That it didn’t matter if it wasn’t perfect: “just leave it alone”, that the beauty was in the eye of the beholder and to just go for it because you only live once, and how will you know if you don’t try?
She was by far the most influential person I’ve had in my life and even at 88 the last thing she whispered was “Always keep your mind open”. I have had a passion for drawing and painting my whole life and now tying knots and I couldn’t be more grateful that this woman come into my life and lit that passion on fire. To show me I could live my dream too.
I still haven’t made the right “Jean” piece, but I’ll know it when I do. My mind will be completely open, I’ll feel you tickle my shoulder, and your whisper in my ear! โค๏ธ
